Sometimes it can be difficult to keep a conversation going, especially when you are doing it over the phone. If you have managed to get the number of a girl you like and are expecting to talk to her on the phone, you will need to think about how it’s all going to play out. The first thing that you have to remember is that confidence is paramount. In order to keep the conversation flowing, you will need to make it seem like you are leading it. If there is an awkward silence, which there usually is, just fill it with small talk. Despite what a lot of people think, there is nothing wrong with making small talk, as long as the conversation keeps going strong.
Make sure that if you do make small talk, it is about her. Try to find out more about her, as in what she likes to do and some of the things she dislikes. Avoid driving the conversation to topics like how much it’s been raining lately; these are dead end streets that will ultimately lead you nowhere. In order to keep her interested, you will want to make sure that the conversation is about her most of the time. The conversation itself should be one person talking, so make sure that if you start to talk about something you don’t go too long.
There is nothing worse than spending the entire time talking, especially if it is about you. Also make sure to get in pauses so she can have a turn. Often time when people do not stop to take a breath when chatting with someone on the phone, the other person does not start their own conversational piece for fear of interrupting the other person. Always make sure to be polite and listen to what she has to say, because she will be able to tell if you aren’t really listening.
